Happy New Year

Well, I've been thinking. Perhaps I should try to post more than once every blue moon. On New Year's Day, I was planning on posting a blog every day. Let's be serious, I think I would cause the earth to shift, if I ever stuck to what I had "planned". It's January 2nd but not quite midnight, I still have a chance. So, trying to be reasonable, maybe once every couple of days. It would be a good start for the new year, at least for the discipline of it. Hold my tootsies to the fire, will ya? Here are a few from the downtown fireworks. Glad that I didn't fight traffic to go see them. BTW, I am not a great firework photographer. One of these days, I'll get it down pat. My point is...just do it. No matter what, just do it.

Little Baby "A"

This little peanut is a darling. I am just learning about photographing babies, just to build my skill-set. Wasn't she great for practice? Her mom was a great sport, helping to pose her and trying to keep her from bopping her head on the wooden floor!

Avon Pier at the crack of dawn

It was worth waking up for the sunrise. I've always wanted to play with a slow shutter speed. This passed my expectations. Not to mention, hey, it is the ocean and how can you find anything wrong with that?

Treasure Hunting

Aunt "Dizzie" (Liz) has been reading to Conor about Blackbeard, the Pirate. An appropriate story for a stay in the Outer Banks, NC but maybe a little much for a 5-year old. However, he is absorbing it all and has been engrossed in this story. When we found out that there were remnants of a wreck, the Flambeau (among many in that area but the one visible because the sands have shifted), we couldn't help thinking that this would be a great time to bury some treasure for him to find. He happened to be staying back with his dad when we ladies (and his mom) were at the wreckage. Little Conor had a gift given to him of a treasure bag, shovel, bucket, eyepatch and sword. He brought the shovel and bucket and was told to find the X and dig. His college won't be paid for but a dollar in "silver" can get you a treat somewhere, can't it? He was grinning for hours.

Troll playland

These pictures were taken viewing down into the defunct subway bed in Rochester, NY. Broad Street, to be exact. The grafitti within is breathtaking. Ok, aside from being illegal, which I think is an ironic crime because it is too pretty to be illegal. Tagging all of the walls on a street and every lightpost as you drive down an avenue is stupid but this? This is divine inspiration, artwork, someone's soul speaking from a can of paint. Their fingers stained with little thoughts and inspiration...

Java jammin

I don't know about you, but there is nothing like an impromptu jam session to get the photographer in me all shutter-finger twitchy. I could hear the cardboard "drums" from a few doors down. I had to investigate.
Here are some more to enjoy:

I didn't think that this piano had anything left. I guess in the hands of a master, well...

This is Frank DeBlase, a Rochesterian who writes and photographs. He used to be in a band called the Flattops or something like that. His photography is pretty provocative but beautiful. He writes for the City Newspaper.  A friend says that he can't play professionally anymore because he has Parkinson's disease.

Ever watch the Record Archives commercials with the record that dances and the guy is superimposed with the dancing record? Well....that's the guy, Richard Storms, top left.

Catch that percussion? wump, wump, wump!
On the right is George Diaz Muniz, classical and Spanish guitarist. You will regularly see him outside of this shop at the market. His buddy, on the left, wanted to charge me 100 dollars to take his photo. I did put a dollar in the tip jar!  Sorry, fresh out of dollahs!
